You’re totally ticked off because your nice little “eight footer” has now been taken completely out of your hands. The roll of the ball is totally dependent on the erratic bouncing and drifting that these little “airholes” create. Although understandably frustrating, aerification is really a short term intrusion that has long term benefits for the golf course. Please remember that without these little holes, the greens would eventually die. So the practice of aerification is an important and essential part of successful golf course maintenance.

Aerification is important for three reasons. (1) It relieves soil compaction, (2) It improves the soil mixture around the high parts of a green’s roots and (3) It helps reduce the accumulation of excess thatch. In order for grass to thrive and grow, it must have deep, healthy roots and good roots demand oxygen. In good quality soil, the roots get their oxygen from tiny pockets of air that is trapped between soil and sand particles. Aerification is a process that creates more air space in the soil and promotes deeper rooting and healthy grass.

In most cases, aerification is done by removing ½-inch cores from the compacted soil, allowing for an infusion of air and water that brings a resurgence of growth. The spaces are then filled with sand, known as “top dressing” that helps the soil retain air space and makes it easier for roots to grow downward. Remember that a little preventative maintenance produces the best greens over the long run. The bottom line is that aerification is very necessary, so before you curse the superintendent for ruining your day, just think that without aerification, the greens would die. Located in beautiful Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach, Dick’s is definitely a good spot to let your hair down. Check out their resident gators as you sink a few cold ones at the Tiki bar. Be careful not to lean too far over the rail, because these predators are armed with very powerful tails and jaws, and they love tourists.

Dick’s has been a legend in Myrtle Beach since the rashness behavior began nearly 15 years ago. This place is a riot and is well known for their outrageously rude and energetic wait staff that imposes absurdity on their guests. So kick back, relax and enjoy the lunacy; or better still, join in the fun! The atmosphere is very entertaining and allows everyone to feel like they’re breaking the rules and no one is getting in any trouble.

Technically, there is no happy hour; however, you will be pleasantly surprised at their prices, the excellent quality of their food and their wonderful selection of beverages. City Bar

City Bar is definitely more of a fine dining place than a bar. However, during their Happy Hour, delightful portions of flavorful food with pleasant beverage selections are served in this elegant establishment. Experience a relaxing atmosphere complete with soothing Jazz music that filters gracefully through the subtly lit dining room and into the stylish bar and lounge area. Chestnut Hill

Blarney Stone’s Pub & Cigar Bar

If you’re looking for that distinct Irish pub feel, then stop by Blarney Stone’s at Broadway at the Beach: it’s “bang on” mate. Offering traditional Irish fare like Shepherd’s Pie and Corned Beef and Cabbage, “the Stone” as it is affectionately known, also serves up a little English fare, like “bangers and mash” and “fish and chips”.

A unique feature at the Stone is their “beer bongs”. A couple of 84 and 168 ounce bongs were actually put out as decor; however it didn’t take long for guests to start requesting them to drink from. These bongs can be filled with most of your favorite brews and are wheeled over to your table, complete with cooling tubes, wooden bases, acrylic walls and of course, their own taps. They can have you “acting the maggot” in no time!

During their Happy Hour, the Stone offers delicious appetizers around $5 each and $2.50 domestic drafts. This pub is a great spot to have a bloody good time after your round with your mates. Molly Darcy’s on the beach

Molly Darcy’s is a fabulous Irish / American restaurant that is located directly on the beach, with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. Offering traditional Irish fare and great music, with delightfully friendly staff, Molly Darcy’s is a must visit! Enjoy a nice cold beer out on the huge deck overlooking the ocean. Their deck is large enough for a dozen or so tables and all are equipped with umbrellas.

Bald Head Island Club

The Trail begins with Bald Head Island Club, a layout that Golf Digest calls “one of the Top 50 Courses In Myrtle Beach.” Located just a short distance from Myrtle Beach, SC and Wilmington, NC the Bald Head Island Club is a club so golf-oriented, that there are no cars – only golf carts. The golf course is also very secluded and can only be reached by passenger ferry (or private boat), so golfers and visitors to the island, are encouraged to kick back, relax and enjoy the twenty minute ferry ride from Southport, NC across the Cape Fear River to the island where you’ll be transported by tram to an ultra modern clubhouse and golf shop, that carries a variety of men’s and women’s apparel and equipment.

Scenic views from tee boxes set the stage on each hole, creating an outstanding view of lush fairways and immaculate Bent Grass greens. The outstanding layout also features several holes that require short carries over water and wetlands, and once again, Cate has creatively used native grasses and plants to enhance the stunning good looks of the landscape on this gorgeous golf course.

Sea Trail Golf Resort

Now ride the Trail another six miles south and you can enjoy three distinctive and classic golf courses at Sea Trail Golf Resort. Sea Trail’s three courses have been praised as “America’s Best Residential Courses of Distinction” by Golfweek; ranked among the “Top 50 Courses in Myrtle Beach” by Golf Digest; and rated among North Carolina’s Top 20 courses by Golf Magazine. Their three distinctly different signature courses, designed by Willard Byrd, Rees Jones and Dan Maples can be enjoyed by players of all levels, but at the same time are challenging even to the accomplished golfer. In addition to golf, Sea Trail has two clubhouses with full-service golf shops, lounges and snack bars, and their full service restaurant, Magnolias Fine Food & Spirits, is located in the Jones/Byrd Clubhouse. The Rees Jones Golf Course at Sea Trail, designed by “The Open Doctor” himself, opened in the spring of 1990 and has become a favorite of visitors and locals alike. Players of all skill levels will enjoy an extraordinary golf experience on this straight forward golf course with typical Jones abounding. Wide fairways with dramatic grassy mounds greet your tee shot, while elevated Bentgrass greens anxiously await your approach shots. Eleven of the 18 championship holes feature water hazards that come into play and if that’s not enough, the many pot bunkers and sand traps will certainly make for a delightfully challenging round of golf. Sea Trail’s Dan Maples Course opened in 1986; this one-of-a-kind golf course has newly renovated A1/A4 blended Bentgrass greens and boasts five holes that wind their way along the scenic Calabash Creek, home to nesting ospreys and other native wildlife. The golf course is peppered with numerous waste bunkers; some of them massive, with one extending the entire length of a fairway, water also comes into play on ten holes. Wind shaped oaks and tall Carolina pines define each hole on this beautiful par 72 course, still regarded as one of Maples finest, the golf course measures 6751 yards from the blue tees; 6332 yards from the white tees; 6035 yards from the gold tees; and 5090 yards from the red tees and offers a fair test to golfers of all skill levels.

Oyster Bay

Nicely nestled along the marsh next to the Lake Shore entrance to Sea Trail is Oyster Bay, another Dan Maples masterpiece that was voted “Best New Resort Course” when it opened in 1983. This par-70 innovative golf course plays to just under 6,700 yards and serves up wickedly undulating greens with vast bunkers and stunningly spectacular water views. Oyster Bay Golf Links is the epitome of risk versus reward. Golf architect Dan Maples and developer Larry Young excelled in creating a golf course where variety and experimentation was the name of the game. Picture severe marsh-oriented holes and not one, but two island green par threes, with sparkling fresh water lakes, a nice mix of long holes and short holes that all demand careful shot making skills, it’s no wonder it’s referred to as a gem!

Thistle Golf Club

Just north of the South Carolina state line in Sunset Beach near the village of Calabash, is the Thistle Golf Club, offering one of the most strikingly beautiful and challenging 27-hole layouts on the Grand Strand. Brunswick Plantation & Golf Resort

Next up, take a short seven-mile drive to Brunswick Plantation and Golf Resort, where you will find 27 holes that meander through tall Carolina woodlands, while wrapping around expansive lakes. Architects Willard Byrd and Clyde Johnston collaborated on this golf course which is best known for its quick, smooth and challenging Champion Bermuda Grass greens. Each of the three nines offer their own distinct look and feel; The Magnolia nine is reminiscent of the Scottish Links, The Azalea nine has been carved out of Carolina woodlands and it’s signature hole features a gorgeous island green while The Dogwood nine runs along the waters of the Caw Caw river and amongst gorgeous hardwood trees. The layout, aesthetics and landscape is absolutely astounding and while you make your way around this course, your mind may tend to wander as you catch glimpses of golf courses from across the pond.

Provided you play from the appropriate tees, this traditional par 72 will give golfers of all skill levels a stout but fair challenge. A unique feature of these two nines is that both finishing holes are outstanding par 3’s. Cape Fear National is definitely a thinking man’s course and several holes require strategy from tee to green. Cate has put together a nice mixture of straightaway holes and dogleg holes and although most look very intimidating from the tee, he has allowed sufficient landing areas.

Taking full advantage of the terrain, Cate has optimized the use of natural wetlands, native grasses and indigenous vegetation to enhance the golf course, several holes feature narrow tree-lined fairways, large grassy mounds and berms with staggering bunkering and vast waste areas, as well as gorgeous man-made lakes and ponds. Lush Bermuda fairways and tee boxes await as do the superbly manicured and subtly undulated Bentgrass greens, another unique feature at Cape Fear National is that the aprons of the fairway bunkers are Zoysia grass, a tough turf that thrives on extreme temperatures and is very low maintenance.

There are too many fabulous holes to choose from but one of the frontrunners may well be the 16th, a nice par 4 that bends slightly from right to left with a beautiful fresh water pond right beside the green. This tiered pond features a rugged rock formation that creates a natural waterfall and the relaxing sound of trickling water will certainly provide you with a much needed calming effect as you make your way to the seventeenth tee. A driving range and full practice facility is available for your game improvement and a full service clubhouse is fast reaching completion. Don’t be surprised to see this premier golf facility rated at or near the top of the rankings in the very near future, it is simply that good.

The Pearl Golf Links

Another several miles south will have you arriving at The Pearl Golf Links. The Pearl is located in the delightful little fishing village of Calabash and sits nicely nestled amongst tall whispering pines and unspoiled natural beauty along the banks of the gorgeous Calabash River. Featuring two splendid 18-hole golf courses, Pearl East and Pearl West, the facility is an outstanding combination of a 900-acre marsh preserve and the ingenious design of renowned golf architect Dan Maples, it’s no surprise that these two golf courses have become seaside favorites. The two golf courses offer an enjoyable challenge for golfers of all skill levels, fairways are a lush Bermuda grass and the medium size Bentgrass greens have a nice mix of undulation and crowning. Meadowlands Golf Club

We now travel a few miles down the road, where the Trail leads to Meadowlands Golf Club, a true classic Willard Byrd layout. Meadowlands meanders through native vegetation with fabulous large hardwood trees and an abundance of natural meadows that create a spectacular backdrop. A nice mix of sparkling freshwater lakes and gorgeous wetlands provide dramatic aqua beauty. The golf course features strategically placed tees, lush Bermuda grass fairways and medium sized Bermuda grass greens. There is a nice variety of flat and sloping greens, with plenty of unforgettable holes. At 7,054 yards, Meadowlands measures up well to today’s long hitters, yet still provides a fair round of golf for players of all skill levels. North Carolina Magazine called this course one of the “Top Ten Best New Courses” when it opened. Meadowlands has also become a firm favorite with the ladies and was placed on; Golf for Women’s prestigious list of “Top 100 Women Friendly Courses.”

Farmstead Golf Links

Right across the street from Meadowlands is its sister course, Farmstead Golf Links. Bob Swezey, Burroughs & Chapin Executive Vice President of Golf, Accommodations and Amenities, said the three-year agreement with FelCor Lodging Trust takes effect on  June 1, and there are two one-year extensions built into the contract that require approval by both entities.

The addition of Arcadian Shores gives Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management 10  courses: they own and operate five, and have management contracts for five others, including Arcadian Shores.

“I think there’s an opportunity to add it to the packaging opportunities at the beach with our other courses,” Swezey said. “With the lease about to expire, it gave us an opportunity to manage the golf course and we thought it was a good idea. The other opportunity that was out there was for us to take over the property and just manage it ourselves, but you’ve got the branding of Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management along with the name that Hilton has in the market, Hilton is an international brand.”

A 35-year lease between Burroughs & Chapin and the 385-room oceanfront hotel in Myrtle Beach began in 1973 when the Rees Jones-designed course was built. An eight-month extension that is expiring was added last summer.
Arcadian Shores was ranked among the nation’s top 100 layouts by Golf Digest in the late 1970s. Swezey said Burroughs & Chapin has already targeted some areas for improvement on the course, dealing primarily with playing areas and aesthetics and will present a proposal to FelCor, which will fund any improvements.

“We’ve already done some evaluations of what we believe is needed,” Swezey said. “We believe we’ll be able to get those projects started in the summer.” Burroughs & Chapin also operates the Grande Dunes Resort Course and is moving head pro Jason Mitchell and Superintendent Steve Martin from Grande Dunes to Arcadian Shores. Their replacements will be promoted from within the company.

“We believe in that product and with these two guys we think we can elevate Arcadian Shores pretty quickly,” Swezey said.

Bald Head Island Club

Carved out of spectacular low-country marshlands, the course offers golfers an endless variety of golf shots. At just over 7,000 yards from the championship tees, Carolina National will prove to be a good challenge for the accomplished player, yet through innovative design and multiple tee placements the course offers an equally challenging test for golfers of all abilities. Carolina National features immaculate L-93 Bentgrass greens that are average in size with a nice mixture of flat and undulating surfaces, tee boxes and fairways are Bermuda grass.

Crow Creek

Crow Creek Golf Club is located in Calabash, NC on Hwy 17, two miles north of the North Carolina / South Carolina state line and just minutes from Myrtle Beach, SC. Crow Creek opened in February 2000, and has fast become one of the most popular destinations for golfers visiting the Myrtle Beach area. Created by architect Rick Robbins, a former Jack Nicklaus design associate, the golf course is an attractive layout with beautiful natural surroundings and features large undulating L-93 Bentgrass greens, with lush manicured Tifsport Bermuda fairways. Strategic bunker placement and water that comes into play on more than half of the golf course places a premium on skillful approaches to the large fast greens. Glen Dornoch

Glen Dornoch, is a superb creation of master architect Clyde Johnston, and opened for play in September of 1996. The 270 acre site is blessed with a dense stand of gorgeous oaks, tall Carolina pines, and beautiful magnolias. Coastal golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area are typically flat but this site has several natural 35-foot elevation changes, which slope down to South Carolina’s most beautiful stretch of the Intracoastal Waterway. With great respect for the land, the golf course was built one hole at a time. At Glen Dornoch, each hole flows with the natural terrain, while freshwater lakes, live oaks, scenic marsh and spectacular river views add to its aesthetic ambiance. Leopards Chase at Ocean Ridge Plantation

Named By Golf Digest and GOLF Magazine as one of the Top 10 New Public Courses in America for 2007, Leopard’s Chase Golf Club at Ocean Ridge Plantation is the fourth Big Cat in the famous family of felines. This par 72 course designed by Tim Cate is as scenic as it is enjoyable to play. Take pleasure in some generous landing areas and dramatic elevation changes as you take on several forced carries. While playing the 18 holes, you will also notice a varied terrain accompanied by stunning natural vistas. Longbay Golf Club

If you can tame The Long Bay Club, you may feel confident enough to take on the Golden Bear himself. At a little over 7000 yards from the back tees, this Jack Nicklaus design is considered one of the toughest golf courses on the Grand Strand. Peppered with large man made grassy mounds, this golf course places a premium on approach shots as some of these mounds are particularly lethal near and around the well protected greens. Three out of the four par-3s are pretty long and the 13th is quite the test, although it is the shortest of the par 3’s at 156 yards, one has to hit a mid-iron to an island green. Players Club at St. James Plantation

Well known for designing layouts with the back-tees in mind, native Carolinian Tim Cate’s layout at The Players club offers a stern but enjoyable test of golf. Very demanding off the tee, narrow fairways offer tight landing areas and several long carries. By today’s standards, the golf course is not that long, measuring 6,940 yards from the back tees, but as previously mentioned, accuracy is a premium. Most of the greens are flat; however several of them feature a crowning affect, causing the ball to roll off on any approach shots that are hit marginally short or too long. Despite the pressure off the tee, the golf course provides a fair challenge and is always in impeccable condition.

Rivers Edge Golf Club

Located just 20 minutes north of N. Myrtle Beach is the majestic Rivers Edge, an Arnold Palmer signature golf course. This golf course has quickly become one of the most highly acclaimed courses in the Carolinas. Kings North at Myrtle Beach National

Recognized as one of the “Top 100 Courses for Women”, in “America’s Top 10″, named “South Carolina’s 1997 Course Of The Year”, and with four holes featured in “The 100 Greatest Holes Along The Grand Strand”, this course really ranks amongst the “must play” on the Grand Strand. The 12th hole is a short par 3, famous for its island green and South Carolina shaped sand traps. Another hole that may have an even bigger reputation than the entire golf course, is the par-5 sixth or better known as “The Gambler”. In such a large golf market, this amazing hole is among the Grand Strand’s most photographed and talked-about holes. The Gambler features an island fairway that if hit, gives you a mid-iron into a shallow green that is guarded by a pond. You’re in for a rough ride if you miss the island fairway or the green, hence the name, “The Gambler”. In order to provide today’s golfers with a challenge and keep it current, Arnold Palmer returned in the mid nineties to redesign, modernize and improve the golf course. Pine Lakes Country Club

Since 1927, Pine Lakes Country Club has been a firm favorite of golfers visiting the Grand Strand. Nicely nestled in the heart of Myrtle Beach, the charming southern architecture of the Clubhouse symbolizes the deeply rooted history and tradition of the Myrtle Beach area. Pine Lakes was originally built on top of natural sand dunes less than a half mile from the ocean and featured numerous freshwater lakes and rolling fairways. Designed by architect Robert White, the first president of the Professional Golf Association (PGA) of America and a co-founder of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, Pine Lakes has surpassed its initial glory after a complete restoration by Craig Schreiner, one of the consummate golf course architects in the country. With the extensive renovation to the course and clubhouse, you can now experience the Granddaddy as it was in the spirit of the 1920s. The back nine reflects White’s original design and the front nine was renovated to enhance the stylish and graceful experience golfers from around the world associate with Pine Lakes Country Club. Although not very long by today’s standards, it is still a challenging golf course and is an absolute joy to play.

Shaftesbury Glen Golf and Fish Club

This exceptional Clyde Johnston design has brought back the traditional look. One of the newest of Myrtle Beach’s championship golf courses, Shaftesbury Glen will have you thinking of Winged Foot. Located just 10 minutes from Restaurant Row via Highway 22, this gorgeous layout is always in immaculate condition and continues to enjoy rave reviews. Slightly elevated tee boxes provide an unobstructed view of huge landing areas on lush fairways with superior A-1 bentgrass greens and big beautiful bunkers, golfers of all skill levels can count on an amazing layout that offers great playability. At a little under 7000 yards from the back tees, Shaftesbury Glen is no pushover, however it offers an enjoyable round of golf, no matter which set of tees you play.

The Dunes Golf and Beach Club

Built in 1948 The Dunes Golf Course has been recognized as one of Robert Trent Jones finest designs. A world class golf course, this Robert Trent Jones signature course has been consistently ranked as one of America’s “Best 100 Courses” and has hosted the Senior Tour Championship and US Women’s Open among many other prominent events. In 2001, the Dunes Golf and Beach Club announced the completion of a $6 million renovation project which included modifications to the golf course and the driving range, which was expanded 30 yards in length and 40 yards in depth, doubling up the number of hitting stations. In 2003 A-1 bentgrass was installed on the greens, replacing the Penn Links bentgrass. Rees Jones, the son of Robert Trent Jones, also restored all the greens to their original shape and size and made minor alterations to the 1st, 8th, 13th, 16th and 18th greens so as to remain consistent with the courses original design. Although the new greens are slightly faster than the old greens, they are still fair and challenging to players of all skill levels.

The Fazio Course at Barefoot Resort

The Fazio Course at Barefoot Resort is routed through a spectacular piece of low country property in the heart of Barefoot Resort that is filled with gorgeous live oaks, tall pines, natural sandy areas and native grasses. As is common with many European courses, the course does not return to the clubhouse after nine holes. Located between the Dye and Love Courses, the Fazio course has been beautifully designed, incorporating extensive tree cover and many lakes into the landscaping. Waste areas and formal bunkers have been handcrafted and placed for visual and strategic effect, with natural dramatic elevation changes adding a sense of excitement to your round. Water features can be seen on 15 holes, yet many of the lakes do not come into play. Tee boxes and fairways consist of GN-1, which is a hybrid turf developed by Greg Norman Turf, while approach areas consist of Tif – Sport Bermuda grass. The greens are immaculate A-1 Bentgrass and always putt smooth and consistent. The Fazio Course is a Par 71 and measures 6,834 yards off the back tees. There are four sets of tees available; giving players of all skill levels the opportunity to enjoy a championship caliber course. Golf Digest rated The Fazio Course at Barefoot Resort & Golf as one of America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses, and is a definite favorite to play when in Myrtle Beach.

The Love Course at Barefoot Resort

Carolina native, Davis Love III embraces a distinct quality of low country character in this extraordinary design. The Love course includes a sentimental recollection of recreated ruins of an old plantation home along holes 3 through 7.  This visually striking course features wide open fairways with generous landing areas that set the stage for an unforgettable round of golf. Impressive green complexes are similar to those found on Pinehurst #2 at the 1999 U.S. Open. The Love Course is a Par 72 and plays a little over 7,000 yards from the tips. The Witch of Myrtle Beach

Blackmoor is a truly classic Gary Player design. It is the only golf course in the Myrtle Beach area designed by a world-renowned golf course architect and winner of the career Grand Slam. Blackmoor is an enjoyable course that provides golfers of all ages and abilities a pleasant but true test of golf. Providing many risk and reward opportunities, the golf course also gives you the option to play shots that you don’t normally play on most modern designs such as the “bump and run” and you will more than likely hit every club in your bag. Blackmoor features Bermuda grass greens, fairways and tee boxes. The greens are always in excellent condition and are not too undulating, allowing you to make putts from almost anywhere on the putting surface. Accuracy is a distinct advantage on this golf course, play conservatively off the tee and you will have the ball in play more often than not.

Caledonia Golf and Fish Club

Caledonia’s amazing beauty and brilliant Mike Strantz design has enjoyed a lot of praise from some of the nation’s leading golf publications. Caledonia opened in 1994 and Golf Digest immediately selected the new facility as the “Fifth Best New Public Course in America.” Golf Digest also named Caledonia one of “America’s Top 100 Greatest Public Courses,” in the top ten of the “Top 50 Courses in Myrtle Beach” and a 4.5 STARS rating in the “Places to Play” Guide. GOLF Magazine ranked Caledonia in their “Top 100 You Can Play,” and Golfweek has named Caledonia as one of “America’s 100 Best Modern Courses” since 1995. Built on an historic rice plantation that is surrounded by centuries-old live oaks, the beautiful sweeping views of Caledonia make for a relaxing and enjoyable day on the golf course. The large undulating greens are Champion Bermuda grass and continually receive rave reviews, while tee boxes and fairways with generous landing areas are Bermuda grass.

Founders Club at Pawleys Island

Since opening in Feb 2008, the Founders Club at Pawleys Island, SC has been receiving a lot of attention and rightly so! It is the best new golf course to open on the Grand Strand in a very long time. This Thomas Walker layout (former lead architect of Gary Player Design) offers golfers an enjoyable round on 18 uniquely designed holes. The golf course features endless elevation changes and isolated teeing areas, medium to large greens are a hybrid Emerald Bermuda grass (same as TPC Scottsdale). The greens are not as grainy as some of the other Bermuda strains and there is a tasteful mixture of flat and undulating putting surfaces. Fairways and tee boxes are Bermuda grass and the holes are somewhat unusual, as none of them play parallel to each other. Native low country oaks and the natural gold and orange sands, create a spectacular backdrop on this fine 7,007 yard layout. The remodeled facility also boasts a stylish new clubhouse that overlooks the 10th and18th greens, with a gorgeous wrap-around porch that adds the finishing touch.

Heritage Club

Heritage Plantation is a tribute to the rice culture that revered the land many centuries ago, over 600 acres of giant magnolias, 300-year-old oaks, fresh sparkling lakes and soggy marshes have been transformed into a golfing community that compares to the worlds finest. Ranked among the “50 Best Public Courses in America” by Golf Digest, the Heritage Club is a 7,118 yard par 71 Dan Maples design and serves as the focal point for Heritage Plantation. The Heritage Club features wide open rolling Bermuda grass fairways and large undulating Champion Bermuda grass greens, and is surrounded by heavily landscaped areas of wildflowers and flowering shrubs, that will maintain the beauty of this historical setting for many a generation to come. Prestwick Country Club

Prestwick Country Club in Surfside Beach, S.C. is a Pete and P.B. Dye-designed golf course that features berms, mounding and other links elements that recall its Scottish namesake, the host of the first British Open Championship. Prestwick is truly one of the standout golf courses in Myrtle Beach, where the Dye duo has excelled in bringing a little Scotland to the Grand Strand; with 35-foot berms, timber-rimmed bunkers, lush dogwood lined fairways and open front greens, Prestwick definitely delivers. River Club

This Tom Jackson signature golf course features A-1 Bentgrass greens (the only course on the South Strand with bentgrass greens) and is one of the Grand Strand’s premier “plantation” courses. River Club enjoys the reputation of being one of the most challenging layouts in the Myrtle Beach area. True to its name, the golf course features water on 15 of 18 holes, and over 100 sand traps and bunkers. Not very long at 6,677 yards from the championship tees, River Club will have you firing plenty of wedges and short irons into the green. Bombers may have room off the tee, but approach shots need to be accurate as many of the greens are well guarded. The outstanding par 5, 18th has to be one of the finest finishing holes on the Grand Strand, offering risk and reward to those who can carry the water twice for a possible chance at eagle. Wachesaw Plantation East Golf Club

Located in the picturesque little fishing village of Murrells Inlet, SC just 20 minutes south of the Myrtle Beach International Airport, Wachesaw East is a championship eighteen-hole facility built on a former rice plantation. Its exhilarating design has been the site of four nationally-televised LPGA Tour championships: the 1997 Susan G. Koman International, the 1998 & 1999 City of Hope Myrtle Beach Classic, and the 2000 Kathy Ireland/Greens.com Classic.
